Maximizing the 179D Tax Deduction for 3D Baking Company

Home > Insights > Client Testimonials > Maximizing the 179D Tax Deduction for 3D Baking Company

Section 179D Overview

Section 179D, also known as the Energy-Efficient Commercial Building Property (EECBP) Tax Deduction, was enacted to encourage commercial building owners and primary designers to implement energy-efficient building components in newly constructed or existing commercial and government buildings. Section 179D enables commercial building owners to claim a tax deduction of up to $5 per square foot for improving the energy efficiency of new and existing buildings. To qualify, a building must meet or exceed key energy reduction requirements and ASHRAE standards.

Buildings that are owned by non-tax-paying entities can allocate their 179D deduction to the taxpaying primary designer for the energy-efficient components of the buildings. This allocation is based on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Intro to the Client

3D Baking Company is a traditional artisan bread manufacturing company based out of Chicago, Illinois. They create proprietary breads for many big box retail grocers that sell their product nationwide. 3D Baking recently expanded and acquired a second location due to an increased demand of their breads, which in turn created a large influx of revenue to their business.
